Herpetology Internship

The selected candidate will assist the Aquarium herpetology staff with daily care of the Aquarium's reptiles, amphibians, and associated invertebrates.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare diets for and feed the on- and off-exhibit reptiles and amphibians.
  • Mist, clean, and otherwise help tend the on- and off-exhibit reptiles and amphibians.
  • Change exhibit water and clean filters in order to maintain the highest water quality possible for the animals.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the live food cultures (e.g., fruit flies, springtails).
  • Conduct and record animal observations.
  • Perform special projects as determined by the herpetology staff.
  • Observe medical procedures on collection animals as opportunities present.

Requirements

  • Open to college students currently enrolled in an accredited college, pursuing a degree in biology, zoology, animal behavior, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work within the selected term.
  • Must be comfortable working with frogs, lizards, fish, rodents, crickets, and other terrestrial arthropods.
